to be or not to be….

… a NaNoWriMo ‘08 participant, that is. In case you’re not familiar, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month (which happens to be November), and the goal is to write 50,000 words in 30 days. Or 1,667 words per day. And if you get behind, it gets really difficult to catch up!

I did NaNoWriMo last year and won. It was a very proud accomplishment for me, and I’ve been planning all along to do it again this year. But it was very exhausting in and of itself, and now I’m pregnant. And between all the first trimester ickiness, especially the neverending fatigue, I’m not so sure if I can do it.

I have less than a month to sort it out. Part of me says there’s no way, and part of me says this could be my last chance at participating in this for years to come. I wish the Energy Fairy would just come sprinkle some fairy dust on me.

My NaNoWriMo profile can be found here. (although the site appears to be having technical difficulty, so you might have to check back.)

  • Congratulations on winning last year! I’m all for you trying again, but if you don’t feel up to it, I wouldn’t blame you. My friends introduced me to NaNo last year and we decided to do it together. I was the only one who wrote anything (all 3,000 words) and when I eventually showed what work I did do (I hadn’t though it that bad actually) my friend just thought my main character was nuts.

Sorry about the detour. At least you know that you’ve done better than that though! I hope your pregnancy isn’t too hard you :)

  • Will you try again this year? If so we can be NaNo buddies!

The only person who has read any of my book is my boyfriend, and that’s only because he hijacked my jump drive and took a peek without my knowledge. I’m scared to put it out there. I don’t handle criticism very well…

  • I’m hoping to! I have no ideas for what I would write about though. Ah well, all the more fun then :D . I’m not much of a fan of criticism myself, I’m afraid. Isn’t December supposed to be National Editing Month ;) .

  • I think that’s in March. They like to give you some time to throw it in a drawer and forget about it for a good long while. I know I was totally ready to forget about it by the end of November!

  • I was just checking in to make sure everything was okay with you. Then I saw this post about NaNoWriMo and thought that’s probably keeping you too busy to blog.

    Hurry back! I miss you.

  • So are you doing it? You should! I’m so proud of you for last year. This is in the maybe-someday category for me. As in “maybe someday I’ll be kicking up my heels in an Argentinian villa writing 50,000 words in a month.” Maybe. :)

  • That sounds like heaven, Sus. Argentinian villa …
